Nearby attractions

  • Eiffel Tower (20-minute walk): In 1889, when the Tour Eiffel was completed, it was the tallest building in the world at 300m. The Tour was originally built for the 1889 Exposition. This steel construction defied all traditional rules in architecture and as surprising as it can be, it was at first much criticized. However, the Eiffel Tower has become and is still the symbol of Paris. On a nice day, you can see from the top of the platform, the whole of Paris and even the distant suburbs. In 1986, the external night-time floodlighting was replaced by a system of illumination from within the tower's superstructure, so that it now looks its magical best after dark.
  • Invalides (30-minute walk): This majestic monument dates from the 17th century and its construction was decided by Louis XIV to accommodate invalid soldiers. The hotel of Invalids is famous for its dome: in 1989, it was covered during its restoration of more than 555.000 gold sheets. Two houses frame the front decorated with a garden defended by ramparts built by Vauban on which are aligned guns of the 17th and 18th century. Today the Dome of Invalids shelters the ashes of Napoleon brought back in 1840.
